Literacy starts with One Word.

One Word Reading Initiative is dedicated to ensuring children from vulnerable communities across the country have high-quality and culturally relevant books to call their own.

Our Impact

What We Do

One Word provides vulnerable children and their families with free high-quality books and reading resources to help build their own home libraries. Children choose their own books from a variety of curated and culturally diverse stories.

We aim to improve literacy, inspire a habit of reading, and foster critical thinking and social-emotional skills that are key to navigating a complex world. We also offer family members easy-to-use resources to help children become stronger readers.

Recent Book Events

This year, we've given out more than 1800 high-quality books to more than 700 families at locations throughout the East Coast. We've hosted pop-up book fairs at after-school programs, shelters, and food distribution sites.

How We Work

We bring books to wherever children are - community centers, shelters, after-school programs, affordable housing developments,

food pantries, and other locations in our community.

We also ship books to qualifying households and organizations.
